Assistant General Manager (Shop)
Date: 29.03.2026
Job type: Full time, permanent
Required experience: 2 years management in fine food retail
Job description:
We are looking for a hands-on Assistant General Manager to take ownership of the retail side of the business at The De Beauvoir Deli.
This is a shop-floor-led role, focused on the smooth running of our deli and retail operation — stock, standards, team direction, and day-to-day execution.
Our café operates alongside the shop, but this role is primarily responsible for retail performance and floor management.
You will be responsible for ensuring the shop runs efficiently, looks excellent, and trades well day to day. You will:
- Lead the retail floor and takeaway operation
- Take ownership of daily shop performance and standards
- Manage stock levels, availability, and display quality
- Maintain excellent product presentation across counters and shelves
- Drive up-selling across the shop floor, recommending products, pairings and specials with confidence
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure a seamless operation, ensuring portion control and minimal waste
- Manage staffing levels and deployment on the shop floor, direct and support the team on shift
- Deliver regular feedback to the team and lead appraisals to support development and maintain standards
- Act as the senior decision-maker on shift when required
- Build and maintain relationships with customers and the community
Job Requirements
We are looking for someone:
- With a genuine passion for food – produce, provenance and quality
- Experience in a busy deli, food retail, or food-led environment
- Who is highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Confident as floor leader — clear, calm and decisive
- With good commercial instincts — understands stock, waste, and efficiency
- Who takes ownership of standards and follows things through
- Who is confident using stock control and retail management software
- With knowledge of coffee/wine/cheese a strong plus
You should be comfortable running the shop independently and keeping things tight without constant oversight.
We value people who:
- notice when things aren’t right and fix them
- keep standards high without being asked
- take responsibility for how the shop looks and runs
Head of Pastry Production
Date: 30.03.2026
Job type: Full time, permanent
Required experience: 3 years Pastry production role
Job description:
We’re looking for a Head of Pastry Production to lead and run our cake and sweet production.
This is a hands-on, production kitchen role focused on consistency, quality, and efficient output for retail — not restaurant service.
Our pastry offer is a core part of the business, with a strong local following. The role is to take full ownership of that production, maintain standards, and continue to refine and improve it over time.
The Role
You’ll oversee the production of:
- ~15 individual cakes and traybakes
- 2–3 retail desserts
- Large-format and celebration cakes (pre-order)
You’ll manage one team member and be responsible for ensuring production is well-planned, consistent, and commercially sound.
This is a production-first role — organisation, prep scheduling, and delivery are just as important as baking itself.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver daily pastry production to a consistently high standard
- Maintain and refine recipes with a focus on repeatability, shelf life, and margin
- Plan and manage prep efficiently
- Oversee ordering and stock control for pastry ingredients
- Train and manage a junior team member
- Ensure products are finished and packed to a high retail standard
- Work with the wider team on developing and improving the range
- Maintain excellent standards of organisation, cleanliness, and food safety
Job Requirements
- Strong pastry or baking background, ideally in a production kitchen, bakery, or deli environment
- Someone who understands that consistency and systems matter more than flair
- Highly organised and comfortable working to volume
- Commercially aware — able to balance quality with cost and waste
- Experience managing or mentoring at least one other person
- A genuine interest in ingredient quality and well-made, classic products
This role would suit someone coming from a serious bakery, retail production kitchen, or food manufacturer — rather than a restaurant-only background.
